Pentateuchal Studies – A Quick Review of the Literature

Peter Bekins has posted a good review of the history of research on the Pentateuch. It is an excellent read for students of the Pentateuch and OT in general. The posts are as follows:

1) The Study of the Composition of the Pentateuch – Part 1: The Documentary Hypothesis

2) The Study of the Composition of the Pentateuch – Part 2: Challenges to the Consensus

Following it up with:

Nicholson, Ernest. The Pentateuch in the Twentieth Century: The Legacy of Julius Wellhausen. Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1998; Dozeman, Thomas B. and Konrad Schmid, ed. A Frewell to the Yahwist? The Composition of the Pentateuch in Recent European Interpretation. Atlanta: Society of Biblical Literature, 2006; and Carr, David. “Controversy and Convergence in Recent Studies of the Formation of the Pentateuch.” Religious Studies Review. 23, no. 1 (1997): 22.31.
