Zotero, Open, Undaunted, and Better than ever!

Dan Cohen has updated the blogshere with information on the lawsuit by Thomason Reuters > EndNote concerning the wonderful browser plugin – bibliographic software, Zotero. George Mason University is backing Cohen and Zotero and therefore Zotero 1.5 will continue on track with its new functionalities. This is great news all around.

I have off-and-on been using EndNote, recommending it in student orientations and in my Theological Research Methods classes. . . NO MORE! I had read stories about the lawsuit and was hoping that it was merely a threat of some sort. Alas it was not.

I started using EndNote in the 1.0 days . . . but stopped since they sent out a letter that they were not planning to modify their software so that those who work with foreign language fonts and especially the 2-byte languages system would not be supported. Then they changed, modifying their software with unicode font capacity. I was optimistic about using them again and once again bought their software. In the interim, I experimented with GetARef, ScholarsAid and several others. Finally Zotero was announced as I believe, “Smartfox” and now they have continued to modify and improve their browser-based software.

I highly recommend Zotero and if you have been using EndNote, transfer it all to Zotero and drop EndNote.
