E-Books & E-Reading: Will it be?

Here are some links to posts on e-books:

John Siracusa’s post, “The once and future e-book: on reading in the digital age,”  chronicles the history of e-books and their readers. It is cautiously optimistic about the future of e-books and attempts to understand why digital books have not taken over the market. Also Brad Linder’s post, “Google offers 1.5 million public domain books for your mobile phone,” deals with the growing public domain list that has been optimized for mobile phones. He writes:

“The new Book Search mobile portal is optimized for touchscreen devices like the iPhone or Google Android devices. But you can use it to find and read books on any internet connected device. I grabbed this screenshot using a desktop web browser.”

Kevin Purdy’s, “Google Puts Free Books on iPhones, Androids,” reports the same thing at LifeHacker.

Also on this front, not that on Monday, Amazon.com will be making an announcement concerning the new Kindle 2. See John Briggs, “Reminder: Monday is Kindle 2 Day!.” at TechCrunch.
